The Swiss National Costume Association
The Swiss National Costume
Association (STV) was founded in Luzern on June 6 1926. It has 23'400 members
in 700 groups which are organised into 26 regional groups. The STV is a
governing body which is present in all four cultural and linguistic regions of Switzerland.
Our mission statement is:
The assocation aims to sustain,
maintain and renew
- the different Swiss costumes,
- the folk songs,
- the folk dances,
- the folk music,
- the folk theatre and dialects.
The magazine Tracht and Brauch was first published in 1928 and acts as the official publication. This appears quarterly in German and French with a circulation of 28'000.
Specialists in the various fields (folk dance, folk song, costume, journalism, finance, research, child and youth work) prepare projects, courses and other duties on behalf of the association and its committee.
The STV is based in Bubikon where all the administrative duties are carried out. Bookkeeping, minutes keeping and personnel support are carried out per mandate.
